Short Description

The invention introduces a bacterial surface anchor system, ClyA (also known as HylE or SheA), for applications in protein surface display, vaccine delivery, and drug delivery

Abstract

Unlike other surface anchors, ClyA is expressed on the surface of outer membrane vesicles (OMV) derived from the bacterial cells in addition to the bacterial cells themselves. ClyA also exhibits adhesin/invasin activity that confers an invasive phenotype to OMV from non-pathogenic bacteria. These properties allow for internalization of vesicles and their attached proteins into mammalian cells. The inventors have demonstrated the effectiveness of OMV with ClyA system in animal vaccination.
